What Nobody Tells You About Hybrid Cloud

A common question we get is: “What is a hybrid cloud, and why does it matter?”

The predominant architecture for enterprise computing is cloud architecture.

What this means is 3 things:

  • Any new application must be built as a Software as a Service (SaaS) application.
  • You must look for managed service providers for applications that cannot be migrated to SaaS.
  • Any remaining applications must be moved to Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud.

Securing a SaaS application is relatively simple from a customer perspective. You select a vendor, validate they have certified to any required regulations like HIPPA, SOX and FEDRAMP, and you connect your Identity Provider to login to the application.

But, the majority of the enterprise is not yet on SaaS. It’s not even in a managed service provider or IaaS. It remains on-premise, and that is what is meant by hybrid cloud. Your applications are deployed in a mixture of SaaS, hosted data centers, and your own data centers.

The issue then becomes: how do you keep all of that secure?

You don’t want to deploy multiple identity management systems, and you don’t want different security systems just because you need to move from your VMWare server cluster to AWS.

Instead, deploy the ICSynergy SPGateway. You can use any authentication system. Whether it’s Active Directory, Okta, Oracle, or even Google Authenticator.

It can run on your VMWare server cluster in your current data center, or on any Infrastructure as a Service provider, including Amazon.

Plus, it will allow you to retire your VPN and reverse proxies.
