In today's security landscape, you secure what you measure

I recently saw this great quote from an article titled Biggest Cloud Security Threats are Self Inflicted:

“But pay 100K a year to have a list of what we’re actually defending? Nope. Too expensive. Wasteful, really.”

This quote hints toward the attitude many organizations have when choosing to spend their money on IT security; you might even say it sounds trivial.

Lack of Security Investment

Last fall, I traveled to Florida and visited the Kennedy Space Center, and one of the main attractions of this tour is to see one of the Saturn V rockets that took people to the Moon. I can’t help but chuckle thinking about the guys who worked on the Saturn project; compared to some modern workforces needing free soft drinks and granola bars to do their job. The Saturn team had a mission, and they spent a lot of money on security. Security was core to the project, (they were building rockets), but security was never an afterthought.

This is contrary to many organizations today where priorities seem to be misplaced by spending millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads. This doesn’t increase revenues, but it makes management happy to see the company on TV during the big game. This is the mentality organizations need to overcome. While building a brand with Super Bowl ads will certainly garner attention, so will the negativity of having your brand associated with a data breach.

Every day we see headlines about a new data breach or another unpatched Zero Day vulnerability. It seems like these things are hitting headlines at an exponential rate and everyone is getting breached. If only these companies’ internal IT teams had a way to combat internal inefficiencies and play to everyone’s strengths.

Outsourcing IAM

One way to provide specialized cost-effective security is by allowing dedicated experts to manage your existing identity management services for you. This is something that we as a company offer to our customers. It not only allows staff the freedom to work on other projects where their skillsets are better suited, but it ensures that qualified individuals are managing your IAM solutions.

If you’re currently running One Identity or Oracle Identity & Access Management suite, give us a call. If you’re looking for a remote solution, we can do that too. No need to migrate any software!
